Aggie, Maggie, and Elmira, or better known as the Ross Sisters, became popular in the 1940s for their performances in the film Broadway Rhythm.
Born in West Texas, the sisters were revered by critics for their flexibility and choreography. I haven't seen a performance like this since Junior's mind-boggling appearance on Britain's Got Talent.
The Ross Sisters are a bit of a precursor to today's modern contortionists.
"The acrobatic antics of the Ross Sisters stop the show on two occasions. These kids are fresh, and their work is sensational," a 1942 review in Billboard magazine said.
When they appeared in the 1944 film Broadway Rhythm their performance of "Solid Potato Salad" left viewers in awe of their unearthly contortionist abilities.
After experiencing fame in the United States, the sisters went overseas to tour Europe. They even performed for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at the 1946 Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium.
By 1950 the trio were each married and retired. Fortunately, with things like Youtube, we can bring back these classic movies and their performances to share with today's generations who would otherwise be lost without them.
The Ross Sisters definitely stand the test of time — that's for sure!
