The Wallingford Chevron in Seattle, at first glance, looks exactly like any other gas-station-convenience store hybrid, offering gas and snacks to travelers and locals alike.
But look a little closer, and your day will get a little brighter…
The convenience store was converted from an auto-repair shop in 2005, and until then, its customizable sign out front used to advertise specials and promotions. But after the conversion, the sign suddenly had nothing to do. At least… for a little while.
And in a world where it seems the only text we read is advertisements or bad news, they wanted to do something that would just make people smile, kind of like the artist in South Africa who posted silly "good news" headlines all over his town.
But they didn't need to post any signs — they already had one.
And so the Wallingford Sign was born. Each week, it displays a new joke, quip, or pun simply for the amusement of whoever passes by.
The idea was started by Seattle Propane, who proudly post photos of their sign regularly on social media. That way, even if you don't live in Seattle, you can keep up with the latest signage.

Each week, the sign features a new blurb with the kind of humor that makes you laugh and roll your eyes a little at the same time.

They cover everything from classic "dad jokes"…

…to sometimes alarmingly astute observations.

Some of them even make you stop and think for a moment.

And some of them are all too familiar!

The employees at the ExtraMile convenience store and Seattle Propane come up with new ideas for the sign. Who knew it would become an instant hit?

So much so that they soon started social media accounts for the sign so people all over the world could appreciate its quotes.

The ever-changing quotes add a bit of fun to the area, and surely brighten people's days as they drive by.

The sign can even get a little snarky from time to time, but it's kind of refreshing.

And it often speaks the truth.

Sometimes it even dabbles in politics, but not in a very divisive way.

And sometimes it asks the big questions. Or at least the medium-sized ones.

And the sign manages to attract new fans from Seattle and beyond, who like its ability to bring some lighthearted joy into the world.

If the sign were a person, it would probably get along with everyone. And based on this message, it would like to party, too.
