Birthday gifts are always better when they’re delivered in person, because then you’ve got someone to hug. At least that’s the way Nicolas Foubert sees it. After traveling the world and being away from his family for over a year and a half, he decided his younger sister’s birthday was the perfect excuse to go home.

His surprise visit took him from the shores of Guatemala, through Mexico, and to Paris, France. He documented the entire trip, and turned it into one of the best birthday surprises I’ve ever seen.
