On Sunday night, Tony Bennett left the crowd roaring when he sang “America the Beautiful” right before Game 5 of the World Series in New York’s Citi Field.
The living legend performed the tune with 12 students from the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, a performing arts high school he established along with his wife in 2001.
The patriotic song, which has been performed countless times before, embodies what America stands for in Mr. Bennett's eyes.
"'America the Beautiful' is what I dream about America," Bennett told NPR in a 1998 interview, according to MLB. "It's the great experiment. It's the greatest country you could ever live in, because it's every nationality. It's not just one philosophy; it's every philosophy."
Bennett, an 18-time Grammy Award winner who recently collaborated with the talented Lady Gaga, threw his hands in the air at the end of the performance and flashed a huge smile to the crowd.
"Loved singing at the World Series in my hometown. And the reaction from the crowd when they heard how well the students sang — wow!" he shared on Instagram after the memorable moment.
