Washington State Trooper Lance Ramsay's concern grew when he saw a woman driving erratically on the highway and almost veering off the road.
The trooper tried to grab her attention by flashing his patrol car lights, but with no result. And when he pulled up in the lane next to hers, he understood why: She was unresponsive, slumped over the wheel. If he didn't act soon, she could die — and even unknowingly crash into an unsuspecting driver on the road.
He needed to act immediately. So he swerved his patrol car in front of hers and used it to stop her while they were both still moving.
The driver, Susan McNeely, only remembers part of the ordeal. She remembers the moment her hands went numb, and when she heard strange bumping and scraping against her car door.
At the time, she didn't know that it was saving her life. Before she knew it, someone was trying to get inside her car, but she was powerless to stop him.
The trooper called for an ambulance, and Susan was immediately transported to the hospital. She had survived a stroke, all thanks to Trooper Ramsay's actions. He put his own life at risk, but with great reward!
