Linda DaSilva knew she was pregnant with twins, but when she went into labor a mere 24 weeks into her pregnancy, doctors were concerned. They tried to stop her contractions. Four days later, Linda gave birth to a son, Alexandre.
Doctors didn't know if Alexandre would even enter the world alive.
"We were praying to hear his cry, and we did," Linda told WCVB. "And it was a relief because we knew there was a 50 percent chance of not surviving."
In order to save Alexandre's twin brother Ronaldo, doctors came up with an unusual plan, a "delayed interval delivery." They kept Ronaldo in the womb for as long as possible to ensure his healthy development.
The tactic worked amazingly. A whopping 24 days after Alexandre was born, Ronaldo arrived happy, healthy, and a pound heavier than his big brother.
The twins have separate birthdays, zodiac signs, and were even born in different seasons.
Linda and her husband were ecstatic that they get to take both of their baby boys home. The twins may not have been born at the exact same time, but based on how they interact, it's clear they still maintain their special, twin bond.
"I thought it was absurd," Linda said. "I said, 'I don't think — I didn't know that was possible.'"
