Kindness is something that everyone is capable of demonstrating. And in these times, we can all use an extra dose of kindness anywhere we can get it.
While this story happened back in 2017, it's making the rounds once again. The reason may be due to a mention on an uplifting Reddit thread. The story is about an Uber driver who picked up a passenger who needed someone to talk to.
The story was told by Twitter user vickto_willy, who has gone viral with her stories before. She's also quite popular on TikTok.
"I was driving for uber today & this girl gets in the car," she tweeted. "I ask her hows her day been & she breaks down. She tells me that she flew alone from Texas to see a guy & he abandoned her."
That's a tough situation for anyone, but this driver decided to make things better for her. She invited her to hang out.
She took pity on her passenger immediately after hearing the situation. "Like y’all don’t understand. This girl was near her breaking point," she tweeted. "She thought she could trust this guy. She's been alone at her hotel since Thursday."
While slightly embarrassing, this situation is actually not that rare. It's possible the girl in question was catfished, and the guy she was talking to didn't know how to break the news. Or it's possible he was already in another relationship. It's a good thing that she chose this particular Uber with someone so understanding.
While violence is never the answer, even that offer of friendship must have been so sweet. This passenger traveled solo for a trip that she likely thought could be life-changing. Instead, she felt all alone without anyone nearby to at least experience the town with.
The communication he did have with her seemed a little shady. For one, he wanted to try to park his car in a place that wouldn't be obvious. It's possible he was on the fence about having an affair. No matter what, she was lied to in some way — and likely spent a ton of money on the travel.
But vickto_willy was there for her. The driver revealed the girl's name was Leah and stated that she planned on "Taking her to a pregame, already got her listening to Florida music like Ice Berg and Major Nine. Changing her life and getting her lit." Prior to the ride, they never met — but in that selfie, it's almost as if they were meant to be friends.
And it seems as if Leah did more than vickto_willy ever expected her to. "Update: She stage dived," wrote vickto_willy. "I have no words. This has become a responsibility greater than I could have ever imagined. She's heart broken. Her emotions are everywhere and the alcohol has enhanced that. I don't regret it. At least she’s having fun."
Eventually, she even outed the guy. While he has somewhat of a common name, it must have been a shock to him that all of this was being played out on Twitter. It's a reminder that when women stick together, incredible things happen. As vickto_willy started piecing more details of the story together, she realized the guy wasn't looking good in this situation.
"He standing outside the club," she said. "I tried to tell her not to call. Based on every excuse he's used to avoid her, he either has a girlfriend or is a sociopath. He literally told her 'I gotta leave cause I need to put lotion on my face' what in the lies."
"Update: He tried his lies on me but I hit him with receipts," she continued. "Talking about he can't be around her because he's a student athlete. I said how does that matter when you didn,t even get in the game this season, like please give a better excuse." Then she showed off his Instagram to see if anyone could recognize him.
Like a true friend, vickto_willy made sure that Leah was safe in her hotel room. She even offered to drive her to the airport. While the trip likely wasn't what Leah expected, it seems as if she had a great time with her new friends.
Many other Uber drivers wouldn't have even asked their passenger how their day was going. It's interesting to think of how this night would have gone had vickto_willy not said anything. But surely, having her support helped Leah move on from a not-so-great guy. When someone comes for a planned visit, it's simply rude not to spend much time with them — especially someone from out of state.
Leah traveled from Texas to Florida and likely didn't know the town very well. By letting vickto_willy take the lead, she ended up stage-diving with new friends. That, in itself, was likely worth the trip. It's unclear if these two stayed in touch, but it would have been wonderful if they did.
It's also a great reminder that even as adults, you can still find friends in strange places. If you're looking for a little support, don't be afraid to answer honestly if someone's asking you about your day. You never know where a little bit of honest communication may lead.
Kindness can go a long way. Lending a listening ear can go a long way, as well. Sometimes, just being available to chat is enough. Hopefully, this story might inspire you to take a chance on a stranger in a similar way. Lending support in a way like this a great way to learn more about the people in your community.
