For anyone who has gone to college, getting that letter of acceptance is one of the biggest moments of their lives. The rush of excitement is overpowering, and you can't quite sort out your feelings: You know this is really happening, and the moment you step on campus is when the rest of your life starts. You'll be starting over with new friends, new classes, and even a new home.
It's all quite thrilling and scary at the same time!
Perhaps we underestimate the importance of this opportunity, at times. Many people aren't able to go to college because of extenuating circumstances, like family duties, finances, or parenthood.
Others, like Jordan Huffman, need special programs. Jordan has Down syndrome, and he wanted to attend the University of Georgia more than anything.
Jordan's heart and mind were set on attending the school. It's the home of his favorite sports teams! But they didn't have a program for students with Down syndrome until last fall, which they called "Destination Dawgs."
The program is very competitive, but Jordan still wanted to apply. He was prepared to apply as many times as needed before the program was announced, and would still be willing to if he didn't get in.
In this touching video, Jordan receives a letter from the university on the status of his application. He got into the program — and on the first try!
He certainly looks like the happiest he can be. Congratulations, Jordan!
