We all have at least one friend we call "the cat lady." Not that we'd ever call them "crazy," of course. After all, how can it be crazy if it's helping animals who would otherwise be forced to roam the cold streets or try their luck at shelters?
Many cat owners will have somewhere between two and four cats at any given time. It's better for them to have friends around to play with rather than spending all their time alone while you're at work or out for the evening. Some kind humans feel called on to take on even more than that — hundreds more, even. I was impressed when I found out about Valerie Scobel taking in over 200 cats into her home, but the women in the video below totally has her beat.
Her name is Lynea Lattanzio, and over the years she has lived with and cared for over 28,000 cats. Yes, you read that right, it's in the thousands. It all started in 1992 when her dad asked her to get a couple of cats for him. Instead, she came home with all 15 cats from the shelter! Since then, her home has become a cage-free sanctuary for homeless felines. Right now, her home is filled with around 800 adult cats and 300 kittens, which means around 1,200 total. It's so much that she had to move out of her nice five-bedroom home and into the mobile rental property instead!
Lattanzio has a staff of volunteers and vet techs on hand, and all the cats are put up for adoption on her website.
