Wild deer are known for being beautiful, but very timid creatures. Normally the mere sight of a strange animal or a sudden sound is enough to send them bounding away. So when Jim Person's dogs started running after a deer that wandered into their yard, I wasn't surprised when the animal bolted away from them…but I was surprised when it turned back around. For some reason, this lovely creature wanted to be friends with the dogs, and they were more than happy to have a new buddy around. But then, things got even crazier.
While not exactly common, friendships between deer and dogs are not unheard of. Just like this Great Dane and his new buddy, some animals just connect even though the laws of nature suggest that they'd make terrible friends. I know that my dog completely freaks out when she sees a wild animal in our backyard, so seeing a sweet interaction between two unlikely companions, like the one between this pup and his new friend, always makes me smile. But what really blew my mind is how this wild animal is completely fine with being touched by humans. This is definitely an experience this family won't soon forget!
Understandably, Jim suggested that perhaps there was a problem with the deer. I could be wrong, but I think the youngster looks completely healthy and energetic. It's possible that he's spent lots of time around humans or was even raised by them before being released into the wild. Still, even if a wild animal seems harmless and friendly, it's best to stay away just in case they suddenly become aggressive or are carrying diseases. If you must come in contact with a beautiful creature like this deer, make sure to wash your hands immediately afterward.
