He Made A Promise To His Dying Wife In 1989. 27 Years Later He’s Saved 1,200 People For Her

Watching someone you love fight cancer is one of the hardest things to do in the whole world.

It's so scary to consider the unknown factors and to choose between daunting treatment options.

And, when those treatment options begin to fail, it becomes impossible to comprehend what will happen next.

This is something that James Van Dyne went through when his beloved wife Mary Lou was diagnosed with cancer in 1985.

Mary Lou fought for four years, until she sadly succumbed to the disease in 1989.

One of Mary Lou's requests of her husband was to donate as much blood as he could throughout his life.

In her honor, Van Dyne began donating blood every two weeks.

To this day, Van Dyne keeps his promise and is still donating blood in Mary Lou's name after all of the years that have gone by since her death.

And this past week Van Dyne received an incredible honor after he reached his 600th blood donation.

As a thank you for the 1,200 lives that Van Dyne has saved with his blood donations, this past Friday, September 9 was named James Van Dyne Day.

For Van Dyne, this is a special day to remember his wife and take pride in the amazing change that their promise has made in so many people's lives.
