This story has a ton of surprises, and each one hits home harder than the last. An army wife knew her husband was returning from Afghanistan after a yearlong deployment, so she thought it would be a great chance to surprise her kids.
The result is an incredible story that illustrates just how much this family loves each other. It isn't unusual for veterans to inspire awe; they risk their lives for us and experience conditions that most of us never will. Stories about veterans like 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran Jimmi Turpine or Sgt. Franz Walkup who was critically wounded in Afghanistan tend to pull on the heartstrings because you know they've sacrificed so much.
It's always nice to see a veteran's story have a happy ending.
Mom had it all figured out. She would tell the kids that they were flying out to attend their dad's welcome home ceremony in Fort Benning. Once there, she would tell the kids that their dad got delayed in travel and wouldn't be there with them. So instead, and because they were already at the airport, she would tell the kids that they should go to Florida, where they could stay on Disney property. Then she would surprise the kids with a Disney flash mob. Meanwhile, Dad would be waiting somewhere in Florida.
She expected 10 dancers to show up for the flash mob to surprise the kids… but it was it was Mom who got surprised instead when an extra special guest showed up.
The mom writes, "I knew he was coming — the kids did not — but I had no idea Disney was going to come together like this and completely surprise us like they did. Over 300 cast members and staff got together to learn and do this dance. It was truly magical, and will be something we talk about and remember for the rest of our lives."
