Hospital Staff Plan Taylor Swift Karaoke Party For 10-Year-Old With Serious Infection

One day, while a 10-year-old Swiftie was in the hospital, staff at the hospital set up a Taylor Swift karaoke party in her hospital room. Kennedy Mayer is a big fan of Taylor Swift, so when she was hospitalized with necrotizing fasciitis, a serious bacterial infection that's also known as flesh-eating disease, her mom, Meghan, decorated her hospital room with Taylor Swift merch, including a Taylor Swift blanket.

Nurses noticed. Meghan stepped out of the hospital room for a few minutes one day and returned to see staff at the Michigan hospital waving the flashlights on their phones and dancing as Kennedy sang Taylor Swift's "Love Story."

"It was a full-blown Taylor Swift karaoke party in my daughter's hospital room," the mom wrote on TikTok. "The nursing staff is incredible."

Meghan has also used TikTok to share her daughter's story and recovery process. In a video, the mom explained that Kennedy was diagnosed with influenza B in March but started feeling better. Then, she developed an intense pain in her eye.

Her eye started swelling, and when Kennedy's parents took her to see her pediatrician, she was sent to the emergency room. She was in septic shock, her mom said on TikTok.

Necrotizing fasciitis rapidly gets worse, according to Cleveland Clinic. The bacterial infection is treated through antibiotics and surgery to remove damaged tissue.

Kennedy has had multiple surgeries, including surgeries to get rid of the bacteria and reconstructive surgeries, according to her mom. Meghan's video of the Taylor Swift party went viral and now has garnered about 6 million views.

Meghan told People that the support Kennedy has received from other Swifties and other "complete strangers" has helped her as she recovers. "Her face is different and it's going to be different for a long time, and it may not ever look exactly the same as it used to," the mom explained to the outlet. "Through these messages, she's realizing it doesn't matter what she looks like. And the Swifties are so great wanting to send her friendship bracelets and cards."
