Betty Boop Starred In One Of The Creepiest Vintage Cartoons Of All Time

Betty Boop is one of the most famous female cartoon characters of all time. Originally a caricature of well-known singer Helen Kane, Betty first hit the silver screen in the summer of 1930.

With her iconic dress, hoop earrings, and button nose, the "flapper girl" Betty quickly became a much beloved character. She has often been cited as the first and most famous sex symbol to ever be animated. And, in March of 2009, she was voted the second sexiest cartoon character of all time, falling just behind Jessica Rabbit and barely beating out Cadbury Egg's bunny rabbit.

Of all her short films, however, one withstands the test of time as a perfect example of the artistic talent that animators had during the golden age of animation.

In 1933, Snow Whitestarring Betty Boop, was released to the general public. The film itself is essentially a series of comedic gags and wonderful music selections, but the song in the video below, St. James Infirmary Blues, has some of the most imaginative animation to date. The whole film has even been voted at #19 of the 50 greatest cartoons of all time.

It's incredibly beautiful, and some of the moves that Koko the Clown does are downright creepy. Along with his dark song, this whole video certainly has a foreboding feel to it and is definitely worth watching.
