While classical music can be very beneficial for both doctors and patients during surgeries, it's not often that you hear Mozart coming from the operating table…
When Naiomi Elishuv, a talented violinist with the Lithuanian National Symphony was diagnosed with a debilitating tremor nearly 20 years ago there wasn't much that could be done. Today, however, doctors have learned that a surgery known as DBS, deep brain stimulation, can be very helpful to musicians like Elishuv.
The violinist was so afraid that the surgery would affect her musical talents that she decided to stay awake during the surgery and play Mozart to keep her brain stimulated. This groundbreaking surgery is an amazing glimpse at how complex and amazing the human brain is.
