A holistic trainer is shedding light on alternative options for treating bunions. A bunion develops when bones in your foot move out of place, forming a bony bump. This, of course, can be painful and affect your mobility. Sometimes, bunions are treated with surgery — but Daniel Maximov believes that surgery is not the only option. On Instagram, he documented how his feet changed from 2021 to 2023 after consistently doing exercises focused on his feet and toes.
When it comes to improved mobility, he says "mobility snacks" are important.
"Obviously how we do it is realllly important, but it won’t make a significant change if we won’t do it enough times," he wrote on Instagram. "So if you want to talk about mobility, search for mobility snacks: 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there, and yes sometimes a full workout."
In a video, he demonstrated the exercises he did consistently to treat his bunions.
He used an exercise band, wrapping it around his big toe and lifting his toe. Toe abduction is also recommended by Healthline, though the site suggests using the exercise band to pull your big toe away from the other toes.
The second exercise Daniel did was called "Foot Smash." He used a small ball and placed his foot on top of it, curling his toes for 90 seconds, and repeating three times.

Healthline recommends putting your foot on a ball then rolling your foot back and forth, and doing this for three to five minutes for each foot.
Exercises like these can help treat bunions and also prevent them, according to Healthline. Daniel's third exercise is called "Inversion Strength."
