Young Husband Can’t Afford ‘Last Hope’ Treatment, Then His Wife Begs For Help

Sometimes it seems like the odds are truly stacked against us, and that there's no way to sway an unmovable outcome.

This can be a particularly prevalent feeling for people battling tough illnesses like cancer.

Though it may seem like there is no foreseeable way for someone to beat such a powerful illness, patients prove every day that it is possible.

People like this amazing mom show that the immeasurable battle can be won — and that the outcome is worth all the fighting.

Another powerful and miraculous cancer case is Kate Robertson and Mike Brandon's.

Mike had been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and it seemed like the only option he had left was a $400,000 trial treatment.

Eager to raise all the money, though the odds were against them, Kate started a campaign that made waves throughout the community — and was able to raise all the money that was needed!

Mike Brandon was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in January 2014.

He was told that his condition was so severe that he had mere months to find a suitable stem cell donor.

But he and his future wife Kate jumped into action and started the donation campaign #Shake4Mike.

Through the campaign, they found a match and he received the lifesaving transplant. They were also able to get married in June 2015.

“My favorite part was the ceremony, our hands remained tightly clasped together throughout — to finally get to that day was such an achievement,” Kate explained to Daily Mail.

However, less than a year later, they received devastating news that the cancer had returned and was more prominent in his body than ever.

Since they had exhausted all the treatments National Health Services offered, their only option appeared to be a treatment called CAR T-cell therapy in Pennsylvania.

While the University of Pennsylvania was willing to grant the couple travel and living expenses, they still needed over $400,000 to cover medical costs.

So Kate once again utilized her amazing crowdfunding abilities and created the page #Donate4mike in an attempt to raise the money needed to treat her husband.

“We can’t go down without a fight. You hear of miracles all the time, they are rare but they happen,” she pleaded in the campaign.

The page urged others to donate and share the couple’s efforts.

Amazingly, within a day, the page received over $150,000 in donations.

Shortly after that, the page reached its unbelievable target goal of $400,000, becoming the U.K.’s largest crowdfunding campaign to date.

With all the money raised, Brandon became part of the clinical trail in the states.

Prior to the treatment, leukemia cells accounted for 90 percent percent of Brandon’s bone marrow.

But since receiving the “last hope” treatment, he is now cancer free, according to two recent biopsies.

“We are absolutely over the moon and enjoying every moment together. We have more tests ahead but, right now, we couldn’t be happier,” said Kate.

Because of the good news, the couple will hopefully be able to have a baby in the future.

They have also started a new campaign called #Donate4Cells, the proceeds of which will go toward the charity Above & Beyond.

This truly inspiring tale shows that miracles really do happen, and that the small efforts of many can add up to make a huge impact.
