Now matter where you are in the country, if you go to a clothing store, odds are you'll see a mannequin or two. They're always a bit creepy, and some of them look startlingly like real humans, but we can usually rest easy knowing that they won't come to life. That's all about to change!
Dance continues to evolve throughout the years as artists experiment with new and dramatic ways to move their bodies to tell stories or just look plain cool. Styles change with the times, reflecting what's it like to be alive at that moment in time whether it be political unrest, social inequality, or simple worries about life.
These days, there's been a lot of interest in hyper and robotic choreography to reflect our relationship with technology, questioning that life between human and man-made. A perfect example of this is a performance by a Korean dancer in the video below.
Joo MinJeong, also known as "Poppin Joo MinJeong," knows how to move her body! She has the utmost control over every movement and joint and she's impressed the world with her viral videos and appearance on Korea's Got Talent.
For this performance, she poses as a mannequin in a window display and she models her dance after the stiff kind of movements you'd think a mannequin would be limited to. Stiff might not sound like the best descriptor for a dance, but trust us, she makes it work amazingly. This kind of dancing is a lot different than the styles of years past, but it requires just as much talent and dedication… and it's only going to evolve more from here.
While the music she dances to might not be to our taste, it works well with her style of dance. You might want to lower your volume a tiny bit, but believe us when we say it's all worth it!
Please SHARE if you couldn't believe your eyes at such a style of dance!
