Some people get a side of breadsticks with their pizza; this woman got $5,000 dollars.
A California woman placed an order for delivery from Domino’s, but when she lifted the lid, it wasn’t the aroma of pizza that hit her senses, but stacks of 100-dollar bills.
Instead of hanging on to the cash, Selena Avalos attempted to do the right thing. She immediately called the restaurant, assuming it was the restaurant's deposit.
“I was like, I can’t keep it; it’s a crazy amount of money,” says Selena, chuckling at the absurdity of the situation. “It’s not like $20 that you find, you know? It’s almost $5,000.”
But a funny thing happened after she called — no one called her back. In fact, three days went by without hearing from them.
“Wouldn’t they be thinking, "Oh, where did that money go?'” Avalos wondered. “Right away, or maybe the next day. But three days later, still nothing…that’s crazy.”
Even after this, Selena's integrity outweighed the stacks of cash she had sitting in her house.
She reached out to a local news channel, which was able to connect her with the pizza chain's headquarters. The company expressed their gratitude by giving her free pizza for the next year. Plus, once her boss found out about her honest act, she received an extra week of vacation.
Unlimited access to pizza for a year and an extended vacation — sounds like the dream! If you found Selena's honesty impressive, SHARE her story with your friends.
