A woman in Riverside, California, is being accused of impersonating a nurse and attempting to steal a newborn baby.
The shocking incident took place at the Riverside University Medical Center. The 23-year-old woman, Jesenea Miron, identified herself as a newly hired nurse to be allowed into the maternity ward.
But once she was inside a new mother's room, she attempted to take the baby. Luckily, hospital staff quickly confronted her and called security. Miron fled the hospital but was quickly apprehended by police.
The ordeal must have been terrifying for that new mother.
Miron has been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on kidnapping charges. She's currently being held on $1 million bail.
The hospital released a statement about the incident. In part, the statement said, "We appreciate the swift response from the Sheriff’s Department. We are working with them to investigate how the suspect accessed the patient’s room and interacted with the family." The hospital also shared that staff is working with the family whose baby was almost taken to "ensure their emotional well-being."
