Every man, woman, and child knows that tragedy can strike at any moment. Life is unpredictable, and there's no way to know what will happen in the next day, hour, or even minute.
But this uncertainty doesn't necessarily bother us. We have always lived life without worrying about the unpredictability of the future and things beyond our control, and so we continue as such.
Aimee Copeland lives her life with that philosophy in mind, despite the fact that she lost four of her limbs.
Both of her hands, a foot, and a leg were lost to a flesh-eating bacteria. She was in her last semester of college when she went zip-lining.
An accident on the zip line caused her to fall to the rocks and water directly below. She spent many weeks in the hospital, with doctors fighting to keep her alive. She had several brushes with death, flatlining twice before she was revived.
When she was finally able to go home, she did so without the limbs that allowed her to do everything.
In the few years since, she's been able to reshape her life: She now has a master's degree, and she moved out of her parents' home and into a house she outfitted with all of her needs. Her incredible positive attitude has helped her recover to some degree, though she still experiences some physical pain from the skin grafts.
Now, the brave woman wants to be a counselor to others!
