I'm pretty much always in awe of anyone with even the smallest of athletic abilities. I remember trying out for volleyball in middle school and being the only one from my school not picked to join the team. It would have hurt my feelings more if I didn't also know how often I have the habit of falling down without ever actually moving. I'm the clumsy girl cliché, but it's something I've simply grown to accept about myself.
So you can see why I'm so impressed by other, more inspiring people, like the woman who doesn't let anyone or anything hold her back from achieving her triathlon dreams, or the incredible fireman who completed the NYC marathon in full fire gear. And now I'm adding this man's talents to my list of sporty heroes, even if it is slightly bizarre.
His name is Garret Doherty and he is the world's fastest backwards runner. That's right, he runs backwards. The idea might sound ridiculous, but when you watch him go at it, you just can't help but feel amazed by his unusual skill. It all started when he was on a regular run one afternoon and began to have trouble getting the sun out of his eyes. I guess he didn't have any sunglasses on him at the time and wanted to stick to a particular route, so he simply completed the run backwards!
Hey, we all have our own unique gifts, so who can really judge this guy? I, for one, think he deserves a gold medal for this new spin on the same old track and field sport.
