World’s Oldest Female Bodybuilder Turns 80 Years Old

We all know what it feels like to avoid a workout. Whether you’re trying to get out of a dicey game of dodgeball in gym class or snoozing your alarm until the last possible nanosecond before that pre-workday run, you’ve been there.

Now imagine you’re 80 years old and that alarm is going off at 2:30 a.m., and not only do you get up, but you then run 10 miles. That takes some real strength. It takes the kind of strength that this brave college student used to overcome depression and the pain of being bullied at school. And it’s exactly this kind of strength that Ernestine Sheperd finds every day.

Sheperd was an average woman in her mid-50s when her sister’s sudden death changed her entire life. Battling depression and a decline in her own health as a result, Sheperd was visited by her late sister in a dream. Her sister told her to “Get up and do what I asked you to do.” Sheperd knew this could only mean one thing.

“I made up my mind that I was going to fulfill the dream that my sister wanted,” said Sheperd. It reminds me of this woman who honored her son’s biggest wish after he tragically passed away.

Sheperd’s decision to do as her sister wanted took her on a journey that would change her life forever — and even win her some incredible honors throughout the journey!
