This amazing project, simply titled "The Fallen," was released on Memorial Day of 2015, but since that time its message has begun to spread and has really put things into prospective. Written, directed, and narrated by Neil Halloran, the project's goal is to show how many soldiers and civilians died in the most devastating war in recorded history.
The average lifespan of an American is 80 years; an 80-year-old today was 10 years old when WWII ended. A soldier who saw battle would be in his late 80s at the youngest. The project is not about individual war stories or war heroes. Instead, it is about the over 70 million people whose lives were ended in our world's deadliest war. And this incredible series of graphs shows the pure destructive nature that WWII took on the whole world.
Taking us throughout some of the most pivotal moments in our history, this engrossing video manages to show how terrible the loss of life truly was. Hearing the actual number of people who died in WWII is easy to look at, but its rather hard to really visualize such a gigantic amount of people.
This video perfectly captures the horror behind D-Day, Iwo Jima, Stalingrad, the Holocaust, The battle of Britain, and countless other battles. Some of the statistics are downright confusing; I really couldn't wrap my head around some of these gigantic numbers.
Please watch this amazing video. Though it's a bit lengthy, the message is very clear. In remembering the fallen soldiers of our greatest generation we'll all be able to remember the sacrifices of our past and current soldiers. Hopefully, with more projects like this, we'll always be aware of what another total war would look like, and hopefully we'll always be able to avoid another similar conflict.
