Pet Experts Say These Are The 10 Most Dog-Obsessed States In The United States

Dogs truly are man’s best friend. They give humans unconditional love, support, cuddles, and sometimes even bonus drool and hair. It is no wonder that many individuals wear the title of dog person as a badge of honor. The question remains: Where do the majority of these humans live?

The experts at OurFitPets.com looked at several factors to come up with the answer, such as monthly Google searches per 100,000 residents for things like dog grooming, number of dog parks, number of dog households, and more. Each state was given a numerical grade out of 50. Let’s see which state gets the squeaky toy prize.

Coming in at Nos. 10 and 9 are Georgia and Tennessee. In Tennessee, 47% of the population are parents to a furry friend. Georgia boasts 114 dog parks for its canine friends to romp around in.

Nos. 8 and 7 belong to Oregon and Wyoming. If you are traveling with your pup, Oregon would be a great destination. It has lots of good options with 22.5 dogs per 100,000 citizens. Wyoming dog parents did their research on dog grooming and dog toys, with 90 searches per 100,000 citizens.

No. 6 is the Evergreen State of Washington. Perhaps it is because of all the sticks those good boys and girls can chew. The more scientific answer is that 42.8% of residents are parents to a pooch.

Nevada earned the No. 5 title. Its residences are also keyboard warriors, boasting the second-highest number of dog care searches. They want to make sure their doggos are well taken care of and all their options are thoroughly vetted.

Florida comes in fourth place. If this was solely a contest over the highest rate of dog-friendly home rentals, Florida would win. Also within its borders are 320 dog parks. The math of that works out to 1.4 dog parks per 100,000 residents.

Arizona ranked third in this study. In the Grand Canyon state, 43% of the population are parents to a pupper. There are also tons of dog-friendly home rentals, coming in at 50 per 100,000 residents. Fido deserves a vacation too, after all.

In second place was the great state of Idaho. A whopping 58% of Idahoans own a Rover or Spot. This is far greater than the national average of 39.4%. These dogs can frolic at 33 dog parks, which is equal to 1.67 parks per 100,000 residents.

Colorado is the most dog-loving state, taking home the gold medal. It scored 39.3 points out of 50 on the grading scale. Dog owners make up 47.2% of residents in the state. They take their duties seriously, making 10,800 total Google searches per month about dog-related themes.
