In many countries, stray animals are a common sight on the streets. When some people spotted this poor scruffy dog walking by the side of the road in Spain, they were alarmed. This was no ordinary stray.
They alerted an animal rescuer, who quickly jumped in his car, ready to save the helpless dog from his situation.
In the video below, posted on January 22, 2017, one of the dog's rescuers talks to the camera.
"We are going to rescue a dog down in the south, in Murcia," the rescuer says. "About a three-hour drive. The dog is crossing streets with a massive tumor and we're going to see if we can do something for him."
Upon arrival, it's clear this dog has bigger issues than homelessness. Poking out from his body is an enormous stomach tumor, about the size of a watermelon. The stark lump is popping out of his tummy and chest.
It's time to take action and get the lonely dog the help he desperately needs.
One of his rescuers lifts the poor dog up and gently places him in the trunk of the car. After a long drive, the rescuers bring the dog into an intensive care unit of an animal hospital to seek treatment.
Nobody knows exactly how this unfortunate canine first grew the huge tumor he's carried around for so long, but one thing is certain: If it wasn't for the help of his spotters and rescuers, the dog might have continued to roam the streets with an untreated tumor in his body.
Who knows what would have happened if he hadn't been saved that day? Thankfully, he is now in the right hands and on a journey to a happier, healthier life.
