One lucky dog was reunited with his brother after spending nearly two years away from him while waiting to be adopted from an animal shelter. Matt, a husky, spent 676 days at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society in Helena, Montana, before the special day came on March 17, 2024. The canine was released to go to his new home.
"Day 676 at the shelter seemed like a pretty normal day for Matt at the shelter," LCHS shared in a Facebook post. "He had been here a long time, too long. But he had gotten used to his routine and his people and he was okay. On Saturday afternoon though, things got a little strange."
The post went on to share how Matt's favorite volunteers, staff, and foster dad came to say goodbye and give him treats. "Then a strange man who had been into the shelter earlier that week brought Matt’s brother Kenai to see him! Matt had the best time romping in the yard with his brother, one of the 14 huskies Matt arrived at the shelter with in 2022. Kenai had been adopted more than a year ago and Matt didn’t think he’d ever see him again. While Matt was happy to see Kenai, he knew he’d be saying goodbye again and that was hard."
But then the story takes a turn. The Dog Team started showing Matt a new folder with all his information in it. "It was chock full of information about him, they called them 'Matt Facts.' They really did know a whole lot about him! But that wasn’t all that was in there. Tucked away in the back was a little paper labeled 'Adoption Paperwork,' and it was signed."

"As it turned out, this strange man was Matt’s new Dad. He wasn’t going to have to say goodbye to his brother Kenai after all," the post read. "Instead he got to hop up in his Dad’s SUV and take the final ride home with his new family. After almost 2 years at LCHS, Matt is happy and in a home right now, finally living his best life."
