These Sweet Rats May Just Make You Want One As A Pet

Have you ever had a rat as a pet?

Many people fear rats because they don't realize that the domestic ones are much different than wild rats and city rats. Domestic rats wouldn't last a day in the city subway system — what with their sweet demeanor and bright, beautiful coats.

Photographer Diane Özdamar rescues domestic rats in need and gets them good homes by taking adorable pictures of them.

When asked about what it's like to be on a rat photo shoot and why she loves rats so much, Diane told LittleThings:

"You MUST give them treats and pet them so they get comfortable enough to slow down and somehow 'pose.' By doing so, I even managed to make my rats really love photo shoots and 'beg' for more. They climbed onto the coffee table I used as a mini studio and waited here in hopes of getting more treats.

"Rats are very sweet creatures, they are highly intelligent, social beings who love to interact with each other (please never adopt only one rat, they must have at least one companion of the same sex) and with their favorite humans. Many rat owners compare them to tiny dogs: they are loyal, very fast learners, will run towards the person who calls their name, and they can learn lots of tricks."

Diane often has to use her "ninja-like" reflexes to get the perfect picture.

These rats love to get their pictures taken because of all the treats they get.

Sometimes they even hop back onto the table in hope of extra treats.
