When he was just a year old, Xander the pug was involved in an accident that left him blind in both eyes.
Sadly, Xander was then abandoned by his owners at Klamath Animal Shelter in Klamath Falls, Or., according to the Daily Mail. It's hard to believe that anyone could leave behind this sweet little guy! Poor Xander was left sad and confused as to why his owners had given him up.
Luckily, it was there that he met his future pet parents Marcie and Rodney Breedy, who happened to be Klamath Animal Shelter volunteers.
The Breedys fell in love with the pug's happy-go-lucky spirit and loving personality.
“I loved him – just his personality and everything,” Rodney told the Daily Mail. “I was saying I’ll take this dog, he’s going to make a fantastic therapy dog.”
And that’s exactly what they did. The Breedys enrolled Xander in the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen program, and in just three weeks, he became a certified Pet Partner’s Therapy Dog.
Now Xander spends his days bringing cheer and happiness to local hospital patients and community members at various events around his hometown of Klamath Falls.
