As animal lovers, we hate to read stories of animal cruelty — even when they're survivors like this pup. Authorities are asking communities to help them locate the perpetrator who shot a dog in the head at point blank range.
ABC 7NEWS reports that authorities in Denver, Colorado are on the lookout for a 2-door red pickup truck whose driver may be associated with an animal cruelty case. Beefcakes, a hefty bulldog described as "sweet" by his animal rescuers, was found with a bullet lodged in his head. Vets have reason to believe that the dog was shot at close range above his left ear. Beefcakes was found by a concerned Denver citizen, reportedly wandering an empty parking lot with his untreated wound.
Next week, Beefcakes will undergo a massive surgery to help repair his shattered jaw. In the meantime, vets at the Longmont Humane Society say he's an incredibly resilient dog with a friendly personality, despite the horrific act of violence he's fallen prey to. Additionally, the shelter has set up a fundraising campaign to raise money for his surgeries, which you can find on the Love Animals website. At the time this story was published, it had already raised $10,000.
