Every homeless pet deserves a home. According to The Humane Society, animal shelters care for 6–8 million homeless dogs and cats every year in the United States. Approximately 3–4 million of those animals are euthanized before they can find a loving home.
Hoping to educate the public about these shocking statistics, Petco has launched a Think Adoption First documentary-style series that features celebrity pet parents reflecting on the impact their adopted pets have had on their lives and aims to encourage prospective pet parents to consider giving an adoptable pet a forever home.
In the video, roller derby athlete Bonnie Thunders says that rescuing French bulldog Freddie was the best decision she ever made. Freddie goes everywhere with her — even to roller derby practice — and has become a very important part of her life.
"He's got it made," she says in the video. "I absolutely think he's grateful that he was rescued. They recognize that the people that are here for them now are here to love them and take care of them."
Petco and the Petco Foundation partner with thousands of local animal welfare groups across the country and through in-store pet adoption events help to find homes for more than 400,000 animals every year as part of the Think Adoption First initiative.
