In a new segment from their ongoing series "Tails of Survival," The Pet Collective tell the story of one very special dog who refuses to let her disability break her spirit.
TPC reports that Bronte suffered an amputation of her left hind leg after she was hit by a car and doctors weren't able to save it. She was reportedly then taken in by New Leash on Life (NLOL) in Newhall, CA. "This was kind of new," Diane, a New Leash on Life caretaker, tells TPC. "As far as I know, none of us there had actually experienced a dog with an amputated leg. How do we properly care for this? What are we going to need to do? Is the dog going to be upset?" She adds that the whole event at first was a struggle.
But as New Leash on Life supervisor Briana explains, Bronte still has all of the joy and playfulness of any other dog despite her disability. "She can chase squirrels down the driveway faster than most dogs," she laughs. Bronte was eventually placed with a home soon after, but the family who took her in went through a divorce some years later. As a result, Bronte ended up back with New Leash on Life. Now, the team is hoping to place this incredible animal with her new forever home.
