Anna and Justin Carter want their dog Cane to have the best holiday of his life – because it might just be his last.
After adopting Cane from a shelter in 2008, the Carters bonded with their rescue Pit Bull immediately. Recently, they noticed a lump on his throat, and when they took him to the vet, they were told it was Thyroid Cancer. The Carters immediately agreed to begin chemotherapy, but soon, their vet gave them more news: Cane's cancer had spread, and he likely only had months to live.
Instead of falling apart, Anna and Justin decided that they wanted to do everything they could for their beloved dog before he got much sicker, so they came up with an idea: Cane's Bucket List.
The list, and growing Facebook page, includes items such as "Parks. Lots and lots of parks all around DFW (Dallas Fort Worth)" and "Swim in the lake in the Spring." Everything that Cane loves, the Carters want him to experience.
Through the media attention, Anna and Justin hope more people see the sweet, gentle nature of Pit Bulls, and decide perhaps to rescue one of their own. That would be the best legacy Cane's Bucket List could ever leave behind!
