Cat Sits On Chicken Eggs Until Tiny Chicks Are Born & Cat Wants To Greet Them Immediately

Even though we might feel we have our pets all figured out, they can certainly still surprise us.

Such was the case in this viral video posted by Nextdoor on Instagram that shows none other than a cute house cat feeling super maternal and protective as she sits on top of and incubates a clutch of chicken eggs before they hatch.

At the beginning of the video, the gray and white cat can be seen lying in a fluffy pet bed with oodles of chicken eggs beneath her. She’s even caught instinctively swatting away a nearby human, which establishes that this cat was taking her adoptive motherly duties extremely seriously.

When one of the eggs tumbles out of the pet bed, the surrogate cat mama can be seen frantically pawing at it before it makes its way safely back under her protective care.

This nurturing cat didn’t feel as though her job was suddenly over once these chicks started to hatch, though. In the video, she can be seen keeping watch as one of the chicks hatches out of its egg and the surrogate cat mom can be seen keeping a close eye on the situation and gently pawing and smelling to make sure everything is going smoothly.

The rest of the video shows just how things went after the baby chicks started to grow up into chickens. Let’s just say that their cat mom was always close by to keep them in line or to sneak a cuddle.
