People do build some crazy things for their cats. But if you’re a cat person, or even looked a cat’s face recently, it totally makes sense. They make your heart purr. Sometimes what they make is simple but silly, like these boxes nearly stacked side-by-side, which create the perfect pouncing party for any curious feline. Other times, the structure they build is way more complex, like a clever dresser that hides a litter box, which keeps a living room looking (and smelling) fresh and clean. But the very best, are projects that meet somewhere in the middle, like the one Reddit user kinace made for one fabulous feline. The best part was she wasn’t even aware she was going to make this very cool kitty treat until her tabby, Ramon, gave her a great idea. It all started when a nearby park was hit by high winds that knocked over a ton of trees, leaving big sticks lying about. She took one home and one of her cats, Ramon was immediately interested.
That’s when a light bulb lit up over her noggin. First, she would have to debark the branch. It was messy and a pain, but essential.
Her next step was to sand it. Although it didn’t get super smooth, the rough parts were much more even.
She needed a base to make her creation complete. A reclaimed wood specialist gave her a huge plank of hickory to use.
Finally, she drilled a few holes all the way through the branch and the hickory plank and ran some sturdy bolts through to secure the base to the branch.
Her cat loved its new kitty tree and celebrated the occasion with a climb.
Rope was wrapped some rope around the branch on the way up for traction and a ferret hammock from the pet store was purchased for snoozing purposes.
She wasn’t sure if Ramon would like the hammock at first, but he loved it!
As much as Ramon loved his own private cat tree, he didn’t get to enjoy to himself for long.
“The hammock was built with one cat in mind, but I couldn't help myself and adopted Henri,” she said. “They manage to share the hammock.”
Henri is a fan as well: “When his big brother is off doing other things Henri likes to use the hammock by himself.”
