The hardest thing an animal parent can imagine is losing a pet child. For Rebecca Felix and her husband, things weren’t looking good after their small dog disappeared for almost two weeks.
The Wichita Eagle reports that Rebecca Felix had to leave home for a few days to care for a sick loved one. Her husband let her miniature dachshund Lucy out in their fenced-in backyard. But when he returned home and called for Lucy, she was nowhere to be found. Things were not looking good, and they had no idea where she could have possibly gone.
According to Ms. Felix, the tiny pup burrowed into a space under their home and managed to get stuck under a concrete slab where she remained trapped for thirteen days. After nearly two weeks, the little dog mustered a choked bark that alerted her human dad to her whereabouts. They were then able to dig her out from a closer exit point — mere hours before her 4th doggy birthday.
“It really is a miracle that God gave me back Lucy right before her birthday, and if she could talk, we’d be able to write a book about it,” Ms. Felix told the Wichita Eagle.
