I have always prided myself on having a big heart and an open home. Any friend or family member who needs a place to crash knows they can give me a call. I'm constantly on the lookout for the opportunity to do something nice for someone else.
And I'm not alone in this. I'm fortunate enough to be surrounded by people doing kind things for one another, like the grocery store employee who assisted an elderly man with his shoelace, or the football team that helped a special needs classmate score a touchdown. But I never thought that our pets might have hearts that are just as big as their owners'. And when I saw what this collie did, I absolutely couldn't believe it.
The Schmaing Family's collie, Ziva, was already friends with an unlikely ally: the family cat Leopold. But now the Schmaings have brought a new baby wild animal into their home. Ziva's reaction and these photos of what transpired are absolutely priceless.

This poor baby fox was found near a car accident where his mother was killed.
The Schmaing Family brought the frightened baby fox home and named him Dinozzo.
And when Ziva, their collie, met Dinozzo, the pair immediately hit it off!
Even Leopold the cat took a liking to the new fox! Their owner, Werner, told Barcroft, "Ziva and Leopold fell in love with the little fox immediately."
Ziva even adopted the little orphan fox! Werner told Barcroft, "Our collie acts as a foster mum."
"We've decided to let him live like any other fox outside the house."
"The interaction of [these] animals is very much like siblings in a family."
Ziva seems to be taking to her new caretaker role, as Werner told Barcroft that they are often "sleeping together in one place."
