A man who wants to spend all of his time inside a dark cave with only a dog for company may sound like an ominous, strange person, but artist Ra Paulette has an artistic vision for these caves that will truly astound you.
Caves have a natural beauty to them, as anyone who has been to Carlsbad Caverns can tell you, but Ra Paulette is an expert. He's been hiking one mile in New Mexico for 10 years to get to some especially gorgeous caves, which he then excavates and turns into beautiful works of art.
Paulette brings along his pup to keep him company!
The thought of spending so much time underground without human contact might make some feel claustrophobic, but to this artist, it's a calling. Paulette turns the caverns into beautiful underground sculptures that honor New Mexico.

Before he even begins, Paulette must hike one mile from his house to the caves where he makes his creations.

Paulette uses chisels and saws to transform the caves into beautiful sculptures and designs.

He's even figured out how to get electricity into the cave so that he has a place to stay.

One cavern even has a full bed for the artist in case he needs to rest while doing all the hard labor...

...But the result is definitely worth it.

He envisions the caves being used for great social scenes and events.

Such wonder in his incredible creations.
