When catastrophe strikes, it’s difficult to find hope amid the rubble. But this incredible story is a beacon of survival despite unthinkable odds — and acts of unwavering love.
Earlier this week, tornadoes ravaged communities across Texas and Arkansas, leaving more than 50 people injured and at least four individuals lost their lives. Of those who passed were David and Brenda Tapley who lived in Van, Texas. CBS reports that the elderly couple was discovered by their neighbor after their home had collapsed, claiming both lives. But amid the tragic scene, a miracle was discovered.
"Shocking… I couldn't move at all," 14-year-old Emmanuel Vasquez tells CBS. "All I did was yell."
When Emmanuel finally found them after a rescue search with his father, David appeared to be reaching out for his wife some feet away. In his arms, the Tapley’s dog was also found. Clutched in David’s arms, he was alive.
“Both David and Brenda were described as animal lovers and said to be very involved in local animal rescue groups,” reports the Tyler Morning Telegraph, who adds that the Tapleys were active members of their local Methodist Church.
As a final act of love, the David Tapley made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the survival of his beloved dog.
