Dog Gets New Furry Best Friend After He Loses His Cat To Cancer

Tales of love and loss transcend species.

Our four-legged friends create bonds with each other that are just as deep and meaningful as their human counterparts — just like these furry pals.

So much so, in fact, that when they lose one another, animals will grieve just as deeply as we do, feeling lost and depressed without the loved ones that they have spent their lives with.

This was the case for Forsberg the golden retriever, who was crushed when his ginger cat companion died of thyroid cancer.

The two furry comrades were major cuddle buddies — and Forsberg became extremely sad when he was suddenly without his friend. He searched constantly, looking for the feline, though he was no longer around.

Eager to cheer him up, owner Jen Philion brought him an adorable kitten playmate. Thrilled to have a new pal, Forsberg has taken to the cat, just as his did with his late ginger buddy.

Though he lost a friend in the process, the Golden also got to learn how to make a new friend.

Forsberg and his 15-year-old ginger cat were inseparable.

They were best pals, engaging in constant joint naps and cuddle sessions.

But, after eight-and-a-half years together, the ginger cat had to be put down because of thyroid cancer.

Forsberg searched high and low for his kitty companion, crushed and confused with the sudden loss.

“Forsberg really missed having a cat,” posted owner Jen Philion on Reddit.

Philion surprised the Golden with a new playmate to cheer him up in light of the late cat’s passing.

She gifted him a midnight black kitten named Maxwell.

Forsberg took to him just as he had with the ginger cat, and the two quickly began canoodling.

A year has passed and Maxwell is all grown up. He and Forsberg are still thick as thieves, proving that there is life after furry lost love.

Though there was a great deal of grief involved in the ginger cat's passing, Philion was able to show her loving canine that good things, like a fun to new playmate, can blossom from grief.
