Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing an animal in pain.
Luckily, there are thousands of dedicated veterinarians, care givers, and volunteers out there who are willing to donate their love, time, money, and expertise to help sick, injured, or abused animals.
Caitlyn is a 15-month-old Staffordshire bull terrier living in Charleston, SC. Last week, she was brought into the Charleston Animal Society with heartbreakingly severe injuries from animal abuse. Someone had tightly sealed her muzzle using electrical tape so that she was unable to open her mouth, causing her to lose circulation in her tongue.
While Caitlyn was in very bad shape, she had the good fortune of being in the care of the loving men and women working at the animal society, who have been overseeing her healing process. Thanks to these generous caregivers, and due largely in part to Caitlyn's resilience and perseverance, she is currently on the road to recovery.
And the response from the community? I couldn't believe it. While initially sad, at least this story has a happy ending for Caitlyn, who deserves nothing less.

Caitlyn was brought into the Charleston Animal Society last week with her mouth taped tightly shut, causing her tongue to go complete black due to lack of circulation. Caitlyn's condition upon arrival was very serious. Her abuse was so severe that a $6,000 reward was offered for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. This photo is also graphic, but if you would like to see Caitlyn's progress, you can click the photo below.
Under the care of the Charleston Animal Society, Caitlyn had a minor surgery on her lip and is receiving laser therapy treatments to try and help heal her tongue.
Caitlyn's healing was even given a helping hand with a visit, a prayer, and a blessing from this loving local Charleston priest.
While Caitlyn's condition remains serious, she has miraculously already made a lot of progress on her road to recovery!
The Charleston Animal Society wrote this past week, "Caitlyn continues to recover from her ordeal but she is still hospitalized. She has graduated from intravenous fluids and antibiotics to normal food and oral medications."
While Caitlyn continued her recovery, her accused abuser was arrested and charged with animal torture. In fact, his bond was set for $50,000! The Society wrote that they "hope justice will be served in this case."
Caitlyn is already looking and feeling so much better! Her story quickly went viral online. She has become a celebrity on Facebook, with hundreds of people sending their support and love.

In fact, Caitlyn has also inspired fan art like this! In addition to the outpouring of love for Caitlyn, generous donations have poured in from the community to help support the Charleston Animal Society in their efforts to help recovering animals.
Look at that brave face! While Caitlyn went though an awful ordeal, her recovery has been nothing short of miraculous and her spirit has remained strong.
And workers at the Society were thrilled to see Caitlyn smiling with her rawhide chew toy. Caitlyn has all of our support and we wish this brave young dog a full and speedy recovery!
