You've probably heard the expression, "We make plans and God laughs." Well, sometimes we make plans and the dog laughs.
Most dog owners think of their canine companions as family members, so it's no surprise when they make changes to their house to make it more dog-friendly. I've seen people cut out holes in the wall to build dog houses or transform their laundry rooms into dog havens.
Recently, a Reddit user by the name of Shaddowrabbit shared the story of his attempt at a DIY project to appease his dog. His little Chihuahua was frightened of the stairs and for three months so the owner had to carry the dog down the stairs every time. He came up with a brilliant solution for his stairs and he even shared his "how to," but the dog's reaction wasn't exactly what he had in mind.
When I reached the finale of his post, I couldn't stop laughing — it reminded me of my dog!

Chihuahua owners know just how skittish and scared these tiny dogs can be.

This dog was especially scared of the stairs. Her nails would make her slip and slide.

Also, the owners had another dog who once playfully attacked the Chihuahua on the stairs. The Chihuahua was scarred for life and refused to use the stairs after that.

Tired of carrying the dog up and down the stairs daily, the owner decided to fix the problem by making a slip-proof walkway for the dogs.

The first step was to get some sponge neoprene to lay between the carpet layer and the floor so that the carpet would stick and not slide. It also prevents the pup's nails from damaging the hardwood floors!

He made a template and used a razor blade to cut the sheets.

Conveniently, the dog's owner had leftover carpet from when they moved into the house.

The owner only spent money on the neoprene and adhesive.

The user knew that the carpet squares were useful, but not so glamorous. This method allowed the carpet squares to be moved should they have guests over.

At first, the dog still refused to move. Even the offer of treats didn't get her to budge from the stair.

Finally, after lots of cajoling, pleading, and tempting with snacks...

...the dog made its first move.

Hey! What about the carpet squares?

Suddenly, after all that work, the dog decided the stairs weren't so scary after all.

$50 and three hours of work, and this is the day the dog decided the stairs were OK to use.

It's almost like the dog was playing a prank the whole time by just pretending to be scared of the stairs. Dogs are like that sometimes, aren't they?
