In the law enforcement community, it's widely presumed that there's a correlation between animal abuse and domestic abuse.
Though there is not enough data to support this, officers in the field often see that individuals who habitually hurt their spouses also hurt the pets in their care. Helpless pets are often the first to suffer this abuse, as they are the weakest.
But one officer in Clarksville, Tennessee, had no idea that he would find a beaten and injured 3-month-old puppy in a mobile home he was investigating.
The cop was responding to a domestic dispute. He heard yells coming from the home and followed them. The yells turned into yelps. And when he burst into the trailer, he saw the poor puppy. She was still and unable to move.
The man inside the home was arrested.
The puppy, named Lily, was taken to the vet. Her wounds were dressed, and she was given all the care and love she could handle.
Now, she looks like a happy and healthy puppy, and no one would be able to guess how rough her life used to be. What's more, after just a few more days of healing, she will be available for adoption! Lily is ready for a forever home and a loving family.
