The animals in our midst come in all shapes and sizes. We're used to seeing them a certain way.
For example, we don't expect a squirrel to be bigger than a dog because of the average size we expect them to be.
But of course, there are exceptions and anomalies. Sometimes, animals, like humans, grow to be much bigger or smaller than others of the same species.
This is true for fish as well. Many fishermen have had the privilege of reeling in large catches that are of a record-holding size, or close to one. Riahn Brewington is one of the very few who have had this experience!
The South Carolina resident was fishing in a river when something caught on his hook.
As it took him 30 minutes to reel in his catch, he knew there was something massive on the other end. He didn't realize how big the catfish was until he took it into his arms: It was well over 100 pounds!
The catfish clocked in at 112 pounds total, just five pounds shy of the state record. In the pictures the fisherman snapped with the giant specimen, the catfish nearly obscures his entire face!
Brewington says that, after taking the photos, he released the fish back into the river.
