Rescuers Are Begging For Antique Fur Coats In Order To Save Baby Animals

Fur coats, while considered very posh a few decades ago, are something we now know to be associated with cruelty and abuse.

It doesn't really seem possible that there could be an ethical aspect to these coats, but Born Free USA has actually come up with a way.

Through their "Fur for the Animals" campaign, they collect furs from around the country that people either bought or inherited and don't want anymore.

Then they are put to surprisingly good use: serving as soft, warm, maternal blankets to swaddle little rescue critters in on their road to recovery.

These donated coats are, in a way, being redeemed for the animals they hurt in the past.

After the coats are donated, they are sent to wildlife rehabilitation centers around the world, then turned into cuddly little coats for the animals.

Fur coats, while once considered fashionable and elegant, are now generally considered unethical and cruel.

If they are not faux, these garments are made at the expense of some poor fluffy animal, who would likely killed and skinned for their fur.

But rather than be thrown away, or left to collect dust in the attic, old fur coats can actually be put to good use.

Born Free USA's "Fur for the Animals" campaign collects fur coats and distributes them to wildlife rehabilitation centers around the country.

Baby animals that are found in the wilderness oftentimes need to be swaddled in a lot of warmth while they recover.

The fur coats keep them warm and comfy, while giving them a fuzzy feeling reminiscent of their mothers.

Countless animals have been killed because of fur coats, but Fur for the Animals is allowed a little good to come out of it, hence its popularity.

"Since we launched this campaign in 2014, we have seen an overwhelming outpouring of donations from across the globe: fur coats, scarves, hats, gloves, pillows, toys and more," explained Born Free USA CEO Adam M. Roberts in a press release.

The campaign's success really shows that fur is becoming more futile in the fashion world and that people who have it would also willingly give it up.

"While urging people to not buy fur, we also provide an answer with fur already purchased: Put it to good use by comforting wildlife." said Roberts.

In a way, it helps complete the cycle of the animals' fur.

Thought it was taken away, now it can return to serving its intended purpose: keeping innocent four-legged animals safe and warm.

While we can never undo the harm done to the animals sacrificed for their fur, it's wonderful to know an organization is ensuring their deaths weren't in vain.

What do you think of this campaign? Do you think people should donate their old furs?
