We often hear of dogs going to extraordinary lengths to save their human families — and for that matter, their canine companions as well.
Remarkable recent headlines of dogs becoming heroes include an Australian Shepherd who led a search team to a lost boy after he'd been missing for hours. And then there's the Scottish Terrier who saved his elderly owners from a vicious attack. And those are just a few among many.
In another incredible story of a canine saving the day, a quick-acting (and arguably very loyal) German Shepherd named Turbo came to the rescue of his much smaller Chihuahua companion Pepe recently after coyotes descended onto their property and attacked the small dog.
“All of the sudden we heard Turbo barking, and we came out and two or three coyotes had attacked Pepe. They were going round and round, and if the Shepherd hadn't moved in on them to defend him…he saved his life,” says owner Daria Gagnon tells Castanet News of the attack.
Their owner, Ray Gagnon, tells Castanet News that Turbo was bred to be trained as an RCMP Police Dog and is incredibly protective of his owners, as well as his smaller Chihuahua pal, adding, “He is a very good dog."
