Giant Hedgehog Rescued After Slipping Inside Storm Drain Using Tweezers

Hedgehogs might look a little like porcupines, but the two have many differences.

The first difference is that people want hedgehogs as pets! I used to want a little hedgehog so badly, but I didn't want to ever scare one because of the other animals in my house, so I've loved them from afar.

The only strongly similarity between a hedgehog and a porcupine are their spikes, but touching a hedgehog's spikes isn't painful, whereas touching a porcupine is a sharp prick!

What I didn't know was that hedgehogs live in the wild all over parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa, and in New Zealand. You can actually find a little one in your yard if they happen to wander in.

One woman learned that in a bit of a scary way. She found a fairly big hedgehog, which is saying a lot since they don't ever weigh more than 1.5 pounds. The hedgehog was stuck in her storm drain!

She called Wildlife Aid to see if they could get him out and they were the perfect group to assist in getting this guy to safety. Using a large pair of tweezers, Simon from Wildlife Aid tries to pluck him out.

Thankfully they're able to rescue him and after his care, they released him back into the wild! As cute as hedgehogs are, if you ever find one in your yard, you need to get them proper veterinary care and have them released back to where they came from.
