As we all know, dog is man’s best friend. One family loves their dog Ginger very much, but somehow, she got out of their yard and ran away.
She was missing for three weeks, and her family had almost given up hope that they would see her again.
Then her Army sergeant owner, Elise Dahlburg, was on Front Street Animal Shelter’s website and recognized her photo. She could hardly believe it.
She immediately came down to the shelter to get Ginger, who was so happy to see her owner again she cried and licked her face over and over again when they were reunited. But Ginger was also very, very sick.
Ginger was on the streets the entire time she was missing and she sadly picked up a parvovirus, which can be deadly for dogs. But thanks to Front Street's quick action, Ginger will likely make a full recovery.
The medical bills were worth it, but Elise’s kids had to give up their Christmas presents since they cost over $1,000 with more coming in.
Now Front Street is collecting donations to help cover the rest of her bills.
“The woman paid her bill, which we love when people do. But she said, ‘If my kids have to give up Christmas to save Ginger, that's just what we're going to have to do,’" says Gina Knepp, manager of Front Street Animal Shelter. “If we can help make someone’s life better, including their animal, then that’s a double win for us."
