How many conversations have you had referring to your dog as your baby? Too many to count? Probably.
But if that's the case, then answer me this: Do you know how to save him or her from choking?
If the answer is no, then this video is for you.
Andrew Linklater from Animal Emergency Center and Special Services in Milwaukee, WI, decided to make this informative dog-Heimlich video for everyone with a furry baby at home.
The video is direct and helpful, so that if your dog is ever choking, you won't have to panic. You'll be able to save his or her life!
Some of the steps might be similar to what you'd do if a human was choking, but the signs and details are different than you might think.
Your dog won't gag or make noises. He or she will usually be silent, and their gums may change color.
The first step is to clear the dog's mouth with your fingers. Then proceed to one of the two positions the vet showcases.
Both are simple and easy to get to. Then, with the right hand placement and amount of pressure, pump. Hopefully the object blocking your dog's airway comes out.
But remember to check the mouth for the object, because it won't be spit out like it's done in movies!
Watch the step-by-step directions below, and practice if you have a well-behaved dog like this one!
