It's hard to imagine how heartbreaking life is for a dog on the street, who has no food, water or shelter.
A lot of times, one surprising thing that keeps these pack animals alive is family, as you can see in this precious video of a father and his puppies. Knowing that they aren't completely alone in such a lonely, scary world can do a lot more for these hopeless dogs than you could ever imagine.
When Dr. Matt of the amazing animal rescue and rehabilitation program Vet Ranch first learned about a homeless, unsocialized, mixed breed street dog named Gracie, he thought he was just saving one dog from a certain death. Sadly, the shelter that acquired Gracie didn't have room for her and scheduled the stray to be euthanized, something no dog should ever have to face. When Dr. Matt and his team stepped in they soon realized that they weren't just rescuing one mangy street dog. Gracie was pregnant and had a big litter coming any day.
Although Gracie was afraid of humans, Dr. Matt helped create a comforting environment for the mother, so she was able to give birth in peace. Gracie gave birth to a dozen healthy pups, all who will soon find forever homes and escape their fate on the streets.
By the end of this video, I had tears in my eyes. I'm so thankful for amazing people like this veterinarian who go above and beyond to help dogs in need!
